You may be feeling some anxiety at the moment. That’s ok! We are too and it’s a perfectly reasonable reaction. There are tried and tested techniques that you can use, to give you something practical to do and help you feel a little more in control of your anxiety.
The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise, for example, is utilised worldwide by counsellors and therapists. According to Rochester University, “This five-step exercise can be very helpful during periods of anxiety or panic by helping to ground you in the present when your mind is bouncing around between various anxious thoughts”:
If you are feeling overwhelmed there are plenty of helplines available for you to use. If you are not NZ-based, make sure to look up the helplines for your area and keep them somewhere handy.

Jax is a certified lifekeeper and holds a BA: Major in Social Anthropology, Minor in Rehabilitation Studies. Currently doing an MA in Social Anthropology.
Kelly holds a BA (psych), PGCert of Rehabilitation, and PGDipArts (psych). Currently MA (psych).
Drop an image of your house be it super messy, super tidy or completely or somewhat decorated. The winner will be drawn at random at the end of each week. Prize will be chocolate, coffee, tea and a mini-sparkling wine.

MU Student health and counselling is still available, but appointments will be by phone, Skype, Zoom or WeChat. We know this service is more important than ever and we encourage you to make use of it.
The Massey@Distance website has been designed specifically for MU students studying distance. Our study support section contains University resources specifically for online study at Massey. So all our resources are usable during this online period!
